Stuart Littlejohn
I am a professional Artist and Illustrator living on Dartmoor in the southwest of Britain with my wife, author Josephine MacCarthy, as well as an ever-changing number of cats. My work has been guided by the myths, spirituality and aesthetics of many cultures and epochs, from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, through to classical Japan, with particular emphasis on female deities and powers.
My painting style is influenced by elements from all these cultures, from Byzantine icons to High Gothic wall paintings, from Renaissance portraiture to the Pre-Raphaelite, Classicist and Symbolist movements of the 19th century.
I work in watercolour, often enlivened with gold leaf and bronze powder, which gives a jewel-like and luminescent quality to my paintings.
My original work is in private collections world-wide and has appeared as book covers, illustrations, Tarot and Oracle decks and murals.
